Sword of the Stars

SotS is a 4x game (4x= explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) (i.e. Master of Orion, and other games of the sort) in which you control a fledging interstellar empire from it's first steps into space to its glory crushing of enemy homeworlds. It is made by Kerberos Productions based in Canada, the same people who worked on Treasure Planet, and distributed by Lighthouse Interactive.

It has two functions, the Strategic Interface, which allows you to manage an interstellar empire, build ships, order massive fleets to attack enemy races, and many other features. This interface is turn based.

Then there is the Tactical Interface. It is a real time simulation that allows you to control your fleets and assault planets, alien menaces, and other races. Master of Orion 3 tried to do something like this, but failed miserably. Kerberos did well with this.

There is also a new feature which has never been seen on a 4x game. Multiplayer capability of up to 8 other live players through XFire or the games internal interface. It is a very nice addition, but not suited for all, as gameplay is slower the more live palyers you have. But it adds a new dimension to play and new skill levels to achieve.
